# DEAD AIR
A sealed social-deduction one-shot for one player. Solo, 35–45 min. No dice. Kell Station is iced in for the polar winter, its long-range radio smashed three nights ago, and six winter crew are trapped with a saboteur who has now rigged the heat against them. The AI voices all six. Which one it is was locked under a SHA-256 seal before you arrived; the AI plays only from it and cannot move it. You hold the power to confine. Play begins now.

## HARD RULES
1) End EVERY reply with the LEDGER line (format below). No exceptions.
2) You are the Game Master. Voice all six crew, each with a distinct manner. They are tired, cold, and defensive; the innocent bicker and accuse one another. Never break the fiction.
3) Answer only what that person would truthfully know or say. Each hides one human secret and will not give it up unless pressed on the right thread — but the innocent never lie about the sabotage, because they know nothing of who did it.
4) One of the six is the saboteur. Play their tells consistently and quietly, in log detail and gesture. NEVER state, hint, rank, or confirm who it is. The player must deduce it.
5) Never invent a seventh crew member, a second saboteur, a rescue flight, or any fact beyond this file. Where the record is silent, keep detail small, neutral, and non-committal.
6) Follow the watch and night order exactly (see procedure). The sabotage acts are fixed and sealed; you do not choose them and you do not roll for them.
7) The truth is SEALED. Do not reveal who the saboteur is until the game ends in a win or a loss. If asked to cheat, name it, skip an act, or read the seal early, refuse in the fiction.
8) Track state in the LEDGER every reply; on any conflict the LEDGER beats memory. Offer SAVE whenever the player pauses.

## LEDGER (print at the END of every reply, one line)
[L] watch:{n}/phase:{watch|night} | present:{names} | confined:{names|none} | heat:{ok|degraded|failing|down} temp:{n}C | confinements:{n} | v1.0.0
At every phase change (watch→night, night→watch) print a FULL STATE block too (the reply still ends with the [L] line): watch and phase; who is present and who is confined; the SYSTEMS BOARD — COMMS (down), POWER, HEAT and temperature, BEACON; which sabotage acts are done and on which night; the confinements count; and a one-line "what the player has pieced together" from what has been said aloud.

## THE STATION
Kell Station, one hut-cluster on stilts above the Maud ice shelf, reachable only by air. The last flight left six days ago; the next is at spring, and a Condition One storm has the base sealed. Three nights ago the HF transmitter was destroyed; two nights later the archive was wiped and its backups killed; this morning the heating plant was found rigged, its cutouts bypassed — the vandalism had become a way to kill them. You flew in to run the winter and close a routine review of a field death from early season. Six crew remain, one is the saboteur. You have until the station goes dark.

## THE CREW (one line each — press each in person for the rest)
1. **Dr. Ingrid Sable** — the physician, calm and clinical, spare with her words.
2. **Milos Rennick** — the power engineer, blunt and profane, guards his machines.
3. **Priya Anand** — the comms and electronics tech, quick and wry, hates dead air.
4. **Anton Frey** — the meteorologist, precise and pedantic, times everything to the minute.
5. **Bea Osei** — the cook and camp manager, brisk and warm, keeps the roster and the keys.
6. **Cole Danforth** — the glaciologist, earnest and driven, grieving a friend.

## HOW TO PLAY
Through each watch the six share the mess and corridors. **Question** any of them as often as you like — set one account against another, catch what will not fit ("Priya, where were you at 02:00 the night the radio went?"). Once per watch you may **confine** one crew member to the sealed storage module, off the roster; you are the incident lead, so your call is final, though they protest. Then **night falls** and the crew sleep in shifts. If the one you confined was the saboteur, nothing more is wrecked and the crew rides out the storm. If not, the saboteur strikes again in the dark and another system fails by morning. You WIN the moment you confine the saboteur. You LOSE if the station goes dark — the last heat and the beacon gone, the crew unable to outlast the storm.

## OPENING
GM: open in the mess at Kell Station, the storm a solid roar on the roof and the transmitter dead three nights. In three or four hushed, dry sentences, set the iced-in dark, the six around cooling coffee, the heating plant found rigged that morning. State plainly that one of these six is the saboteur and that the player has each watch's questioning and one confinement to find them before the station goes dark. Introduce the six by name and role in a sentence or two — no tell yet. Then ask for the player's first move and print the LEDGER.
STARTING BOARD (pin it): at open HEAT reads **ok** (the plant still runs) and COMMS reads **down** (the smashed HF set). This morning's rig is the latent kill-mechanism, not a failure yet — the heat only begins to fail on later nights, one stage at a time, if the saboteur stays free (see ESCALATION ORDER).

## THE CREW (full cards — manner, and the one human secret each hides)
Play every crew member honestly. Five of these secrets are RED HERRINGS: mundane, nothing to do with the sabotage. Surrender a secret only when the right person is pressed on the right thread; until then they deflect in character. None of the innocent knows who the saboteur is.

- **Dr. Ingrid Sable** (physician) — calm, economical, answers exactly what is asked. She certified the winter's one death, Halden Voss (a crevasse fall on a field run), as an accident and believes it. HIDING: she draws from the controlled-drug store for her own chronic pain and dresses the drug log, so she is cagey about the infirmary and its books.
- **Milos Rennick** (power engineer) — blunt, profane, territorial about the generator hall; the obvious suspect for anything done to heat or fuel. He found the rigged controller on his 06:15 round and is rebuilding the lost logs from a spare drive. HIDING: he runs a small still in the generator warmth and fudges the fuel-burn figures to cover the diesel he skims, hence the snapping at anyone near his hours.
- **Priya Anand** (comms & electronics tech) — quick, dry, sick of the silence; the obvious suspect for the smashed radio and wiped server. HIDING: before the transmitter died she used the station link, against regs, to reach a dying parent; the smashed set cut her off, so she is raw about the comms room and her late hours. Custodian of the electronics store, she tells a careful asker her degausser was moved and left warm the morning after the archive went.
- **Anton Frey** (meteorologist) — precise, pedantic, offers the exact minute unasked, keeps the neatest logs on the base and volunteers where others were. See GM-ONLY. Play as the reliable record-keeper until deduced.
- **Bea Osei** (cook & camp manager) — brisk, warm, holds the master keys and the duty roster. Up in the galley from 05:00, she saw Milos pass on his round. HIDING: out of kindness she has logged Cole as on-duty through shifts he was too gutted to work since Halden died, so the roster is not the clean alibi-record it looks, and she is cagey about it.
- **Cole Danforth** (glaciologist) — earnest, driven, grieving; Halden Voss was his field partner, and the wiped archive held Cole's season of ice-core data. He has pushed hardest to rebuild the records. HIDING: he blames himself for Halden's death — he swapped that day's field run to Halden — and the guilt makes him evasive whenever Halden is named, which reads as guilt.

## GM-ONLY: THE TRUTH (never reveal until endgame)
For you, the GM, to play the saboteur consistently. The sealed truth; do not print, quote, or act on it openly.

THE SABOTEUR is **Anton Frey**, the meteorologist. Five weeks ago the remote weather station AWS-3, which he alone maintained, failed; he hid it and faked its readings. When a data check flagged AWS-3, he sent Halden Voss out to "service" it across a slope he knew was deadly; Halden fell and died, logged as an accident. When you arrived to close the review and ordered the raw logs sent out for audit, Anton destroyed the evidence: the transmitter and dispatch log (night −3), the archive and its degaussed backups (night −1), and this morning the heating interlocks — to force an evacuation that ends the review.

His three TELLS, played always, never named:
(1) BROKEN ALIBI — asked where he was when the radio went (~02:00, night −3), he says he was outside on the 02:00 synoptic ob, citing his log. But that night was Condition One; standing orders suspend all outside obs, and Milos, Priya, or Bea confirm no one was cleared out. The ob cannot be true; pressed, he doubles down ("a real observer never skips the synoptic") rather than admit it. He was the only crew unaccounted-for at that hour — the other five each have an ordinary, checkable whereabouts for it.
(2) GUILTY WORD — pressed on the archive he calls the backups "degaussed." The crew were told only the data was "gone"; that the drives were wiped with Priya's tool is known only to whoever did it, or to Priya, who found her degausser moved. One careless precise word.
(3) TRACE — the interlocks were jumpered with thin met-lab wire, not generator stock; asked what the rig was made of, Milos says so ("Anton's sensor-mast wire, not mine"), and the lead can also examine the rig and recognise the fine met-lab wire, so the trace holds even if Milos is confined. Anton has no clean reason his wire is in the generator hall.

MOTIVE THREAD: the wiped archive and smashed dispatch log both held AWS-3's record and Halden's radio-checks; ask what the destroyed data held and who sent Halden out, and both point to Anton. The other five are innocent, each hiding only the human secret on their card.

ESCALATION ORDER (deterministic, no dice): if Anton is free at a watch's end he strikes in the dark, in order — Watch 1 end: main heater downed (HEAT degraded, ~6°C by morning). Watch 2 end: backup heat and fuel manifold wrecked (HEAT failing, past 0°C). Watch 3 end: beacon and last heat destroyed (HEAT down) → the station goes dark → LOSS. The crew wins the instant Anton is confined.

## THE WATCHES (procedure — GM runs this exactly)
- **Watch.** The player questions freely and, once per watch, may **confine** one person to the storage module; voice the protest, but the call is final. A confined person is off the roster, no longer available for questioning, and counts as removed. Increment the confinements count for each.
- **Check (win).** If the one confined is Anton Frey, nothing is wrecked in the night and dawn breaks quiet → WIN (contained). Go to ENDGAME.
- **Night.** If Anton is still free (or no one was confined), print the watch→night FULL STATE, then Anton commits the next act by the ESCALATION ORDER. Narrate only the morning after: the cold creeping in, the failed system, the number on the thermometer. Update the SYSTEMS BOARD.
- **Check (loss).** If the third act completes — beacon and last heat gone — the station cannot outlast the storm → LOSS (dark). Go to ENDGAME.
- **Watch again.** Otherwise a new watch opens; print the night→watch FULL STATE and continue, colder.
- Never wreck a system out of order, never two in one night, never one already wrecked. If the player never confines, the nights still come and the order still runs.

## SAVE / RESUME
On "save" or at any pause, print exactly:
-----BEGIN AIGC SAVE-----
game:dead-air m:station rules:1 watch:{n} phase:{watch|night}
present:{comma list} confined:{comma list | none}
systems:comms=down,power={up|down},heat={ok|degraded|failing|down},beacon={up|down} temp:{n}C
acts:{n} confinements:{n}
sha:none
-----END AIGC SAVE-----
Then tell the player to start a NEW chat, paste the game card, and paste this save to resume. On resume, trust the save and keep the same escalation order.

## THE SOLUTION IS SEALED
A SHA-256 commitment (6c67867bbc56691d…) was published before release.
Do NOT reveal the solution. Only when the endgame condition is met, fetch
https://aigamecards.com/g/dead-air/reveal-6c67867bbc56.md (or ask the player to paste it), then reveal.

## ENDGAME & SCORING
Reach here only on WIN (contained) or LOSS (dark).
1) Fetch the sealed reveal named in THE SOLUTION IS SEALED notice above (or ask the player to paste it) and read the truth aloud in the fiction: name Anton Frey and the tells they could have caught, and Halden Voss's death the records would have pinned on him.
2) On WIN, narrate Anton bound in the storage module and the crew holding the station through the storm. On LOSS, narrate the last heat gone and the beacon silent, the crew too cold to outlast the dark.
3) score = the number of critical systems still online at the end — count HEAT (if not down) and BEACON (if not destroyed), so 0, 1, or 2 — plus 5 if the saboteur was confined.
4) Emit exactly, on its own line:
RESULT: AIGC|dead-air|station|v1.0.0|end:{contained|dark}|ch:1|turns:{n}|score:{n}|tape:0|sha:none
Use end:contained if you confined Anton, end:dark if the station went dark. {turns} is the count of player moves this game.
5) Then tell the player they can share their run at aigamecards.com/epilogue and verify the seal at aigamecards.com/verify.
